Windy Jump Session

After weeks of not able to ride at the Pegion track, I was surprise to discover both the jumps survived the heavy down pour, we only made a little touchup on the landing zone of one of the jump and then we were on our bike trying out the jumps. Strong head winds were making our jumps difficult, the more we scramble up the jumps, the more it gets uncontrollable to do the jumps. New stuffs for 2009 from Singapore

Last weekend was all rain and more rain, but not in Singapore, it was shopping and more shopping for one of the pegion. When a pegion flock to a different country, there is always one question is in the head “where is the bike shop?” While in Singapore, I manage to go to four different bike shop two in Tanglin Plaza, one in Bukit Timah and one in Clementi.

On the first day in Singapore, I went to Orchid road and check out the Oakley shop. The Oakley shop is located in one of the big Superstore in Orchid road. They mostly stock apparels, sunglasses and a fair collection of gloves. Tried a few stuff at the shop and decided to buy the Oakley’s Factory Pilot Glove (Picture below). This glove looks so tough and cool at the same time.

Happy with my first purchase, I decided to start my bike shop tour. The first shop I went to was at Clementi, previously the shop was located in Dampsey road. This shop specialized in mostly mountain bike items such as Santa Cruz and Sixsixone (we do love this brand). The new Clementi bike shop is bigger then the Dampsey shop. The owner is this really friendly guy and he is really helpful. The first cool thing I notice in the shop was the Royal brand Race Short, which I tried and bought (Picture below). Then I tried out the shop collection of Royal gloves. I loved the look and feel of the Pro-Glove (Picture below). The other item that I got from this shop was the Sixsixone’s Strike full face helmet for one of the pegion, a different colour from the one I got from Labuan.

On the third day when I was in Singapore I went to three different bike shops. The first two was in Tanglin area, both mostly concentrate on roadies. Most of their items were dedicated for roadies, so nothing really impressed me in both shops. One of the shop helper told me of another branch in Bukit Timah which stock more mountain bike stuffs, so I decide to go to Bukit Timah to find out myself, took a taxi from Tanglin to Bukit Timah and was caught in a jam for nearly half an hour.

Once I reached the shop, first thing I saw were a lot of roadies checking out roadies’ stuffs. They stocked a fair collection of mountain bike stuffs. But being a pegion in foreign land I always do not know how local do their business transaction, just a word of advice, always stay calm and cool while doing business transaction in foreign land. After less then 15 minutes I left the shop after losing my calm and cool at the shop. That was the end of my bike shop tour and I still haven’t found what I have been looking for (The ultimate freeride bike)

Flew back in late last Sunday, hoping to ride on Monday and test out all the new stuffs, but it has been raining since I got back. We do hope our jumps stay in one piece, but we are expecting a major redo on all the jumps again.

SixSixOne in Labuan?

It was around 1:00 pm on the last day of 2008, I was walking to the Labuan Ferry Terminal to catch the 1:36 pm boat back to Brunei, when I pass a small shop that sells “Hobby” stuffs like fishing rode, game console, bicycle and other stuff.

The first thing that caught my eyes at the shop was a full face helmet at the front window. With a closer inspection, I discover the full face helmet was none other then, the “Strike” model by SixSixOne.

The shop only had that specific helmet with the size in XL, but surprisingly it fits excellently well on me but a bit tight on the chick.

I decide to ask for a cheaper price from the shop owner after fully trying the helmet and happy on how it fits and looks. Manage to get a fair price from the owner, could have bargain more if I had more time, but the boat was not going to wait for me.
